Respirology Case Reports (RCR) is an international open access journal publishing original clinical case reports, case series, clinical images, and clinical videos in all fields of respiratory medicine. We facilitate the international exchange between clinicians and researchers of experiences in diagnosing and treating uncommon diseases or diseases with unusual presentations. Cases with a strong educational value supported by a solid discussion will also be considered for publication.
Respirology Case Reports is the official case reports journal of the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology.

Distinct Ultrasound Features of Giant Solitary Fibrous Tumour of the Pleura: A Case Report
-  4 June 2025
Graphical Abstract

This case report presents novel ultrasound findings of giant solitary fibrous tumour of the pleura (SFTP), highlighting the significant differences from non-giant SFTP. Awareness of the variable ultrasound characteristics of SFTP across different sizes can enhance accurate diagnosis and facilitate management.

Primary pulmonary amoebiasis mimicking lung tumour in immunocompromised patient: A case report
- Respirology Case Reports
-  25 Jul 2023
Graphical Abstract

This case study explores primary pulmonary amoebiasis, which is a very uncommon condition. The chest imaging showed consolidation that mimicked the tumour, despite the histological analysis identifying the trophozoites or cysts of Entamoeba histolytica. Pulmonary amoebiasis is treatable with medicines and drainage if necessary. A multidisciplinary approach and appropriate therapy management are needed to decrease mortality and morbidity.

A novel approach involving reversed placement of endobronchial valves combined with retrograde methylene blue instillation for the localization of multifocal bronchopleural fistula
- Respirology Case Reports
-  1 Feb 2024
Graphical Abstract

In this article, we report two cases using a new method for locating multifocal bronchopleural fistula (BPFs) which involves placing the endobronchial valve (EBV) in reverse combined with retrograde MB instillation. First, the thoracic cavity is filled with MB solution. Then, using bronchoscopy, the location of a BPF can be identified as the MB solution flows into the bronchus. Secondly, an EBV is deployed in reverse in the bronchus where the identified BPF is located. Retrograde MB instillation is then repeated to locate any additional BPFs until no new ones are found.
Trimethoprim‐sulfamethoxazole acute respiratory distress syndrome requiring lung transplantation
- Respirology Case Reports
-  15 Jul 2024
Graphical Abstract

Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX) acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a rare, but severe complication of a commonly prescribed antibiotic. We describe the case of a previously well 18-year-old woman treated with a prolonged course of TMP-SMX for a complex urinary tract infection who developed rapidly progressive respiratory failure requiring prolonged intensive care admission, extra-corporeal membranous oxygenation, and eventual lung transplantation.
Transbronchial lung cryobiopsy under real-time radial EBUS: First report on a novel twist of the classical technique
- Respirology Case Reports
-  22 Jul 2024
Graphical Abstract

In this case report, we present a young woman who was referred to us with a cough, haemoptysis, and a non-resolving lung consolidation. She underwent transbronchial lung cryobiopsy (TBLC) under real-time radial-EBUS (r-EBUS) guidance. This clinical case demonstrates that, in specific clinical scenarios, TBLC with real-time rEBUS is an excellent diagnostic tool.

Dasatinib‐Induced Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia: A Case Report and Literature Review
- Respirology Case Reports
-  10 Mar 2025
Graphical Abstract

Dasatinib, a second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor used for treating chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), is associated with rare but significant adverse effects, including pulmonary arterial hypertension. We present the case of a 55-year-old female with CML who developed severe pre-capillary pulmonary hypertension after prolonged dasatinib use.
